Richard Constantine (G3UGF) on Hamvention 2018

On 11 March 2025, HADARS was treated to a fascinating presentation by Richard Constantine (G3UGF) on his visit to Hamvention in 2018. Richard kindly stepped in at the last moment after Max (G4SDX) was unfortunately taken ill, ensuring that our evening was still filled with engaging content for members and guests alike.

Hamvention, held annually in Ohio, is the world’s largest amateur radio gathering. Organised by the Dayton Amateur Radio Association (DARA) since 1952, the event has grown from humble beginnings into a global attraction for radio enthusiasts. With a vast flea market, exhibitions, technical forums, and opportunities to meet like-minded individuals, Hamvention is a must-visit for any dedicated amateur radio operator.

Richard shared his personal experiences from the 2018 event, taking us on a virtual journey through the bustling halls of vendors, the outdoor flea market, and the various demonstrations on display. His talk provided a glimpse into the scale and variety of the event, from cutting-edge radio technology to vintage equipment finds. Through his stories and photographs, members were able to get a taste of what makes Hamvention such a special event for the amateur radio community worldwide.

A recording of Richard’s talk is included below for those who missed the event or wish to revisit the presentation. A big thank you to Richard for stepping in and delivering such an insightful and enjoyable evening for HADARS.
